Carleton College, WeCar by Enterprise to Launch Car-Sharing Program

Sept. 9, 2009 (Northfield, Minn.) - Carleton College and WeCar, a car-sharing program by Enterprise Rent-A-Car, have announced a new partnership, making the College WeCar's first customer in Minnesota. The partnership allows Carleton to advance its sustainability initiatives and provide a more cost-effective and convenient transportation solution to its students 18-years-old and over.

WeCar members will have access to two hybrid vehicles on campus - a Toyota Prius hybrid and Camry hybrid. Carleton students, faculty and staff are eligible for membership and can rent the cars hourly, overnight, or for a full day. The WeCar campus program is especially popular with students because it provides a solution to car rental age restrictions and to financial concerns associated with having a car on campus. Enterprise's WeCar car-sharing program is offered on several other campuses across the nation.

"The WeCar program is part of Carleton's broader effort to improve 'green' transportation options for students, reduce the number of cars on campus and in the adjoining neighborhood, and reduce carbon emissions. Carleton recognizes that Northfield and the Minneapolis-St. Paul metro area offer our students an opportunity to expand their classroom experiences, and WeCar provides them a convenient option for travel off our campus," said Julia H. Burmesch, Carleton's director of campus services.

WeCar allows members to maintain the benefits of a personal car while only paying for the vehicle when they use it. Car-sharing reduces pollution and traffic congestion, because it takes cars off the road. Carleton WeCar members will have 24-hour access to the vehicles, and can make reservations for usage online anytime. Fuel, maintenance, up to 200 free miles per day, and insurance for users 21-years-old and over is included. Vehicles can be rented hourly, overnight (6 p.m. - 8 a.m.), or for a full day.

"We are excited to bring WeCar to its first Minnesota school," said Jeff Parell, senior vice president of WeCar. "By offering our car-sharing program on campus, Carleton is providing a cost savings opportunity for both students and parents, along with a convenient transportation solution. And, WeCar is another great step in advancing the College's sustainability initiatives."

Members can sign up now online at http://www.wecar.com/carleton or at the WeCar booth on campus, today at the New Student Week welcome event.
